The Frames in Concert
A few years ago, during a European film festival, I went to see a film : Once. It was by the time I wanted to emigrate to Ireland and the movie was Irish so I said, ok, let’s see it. The movie was artistically great. From IMDB “A modern-day musical about a busker and an immigrant and their eventful week in Dublin, as they write, rehearse and record songs that tell their love story. ”
What I remember now from this film were several songs that were so greatly sung by Glen Hansard.
Two and a half years after (now), my Irish neighbor invites me and Iulia to a concert. An Irish band called The Frames, whose lead singer is Glen Hansard, the guy I saw in the movie mentioned above.
So yesterday we went to see them and we were fockin surprised by the punch we got. The guy is an amazing singer, the band is very talented (two guitars, one bass, one keyboard, a drum and a violin) almost every song is a love song with smart words, starts slowly and romantic and at one point it bursts in a grunge and heavy rock way you didn’t expect in the beginning. It’s a very popular band in Ireland and apparently they have European gigs, but they are not really known outside their country.
If somehow Dermot gets to read this, thank you man for the invitation. It’s one of the best piece of music I have seen live!
